JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WICS) — A significant grease spill early Tuesday morning has prompted a safety response on the eastbound lanes of Morton Avenue.

The Jacksonville Fire Department, Jacksonville Police Department, and Jacksonville Street Department responded to the incident, which involved an estimated 100 gallons of organic grease spilling from a commercial grease truck.

The spill stretched from the Starbucks on West Morton Avenue to the Casey’s on East Morton, leaving a visible trail of slippery material and creating a strong odor.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. However, the department is urging the public to exercise caution when traveling in the area.

City street crews are actively working to clean the affected roadway. Sand and absorbent materials are being applied to reduce the risk of slipping. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the stretch of Morton Avenue eastbound between Lincoln Avenue and South Clay Street while cleanup efforts continue.

The Jacksonville Fire Department and city officials appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as they work to restore safe travel conditions.
