Jacksonville correctional officer Jose Guerra, a 19-year JSO veteran, faces battery and witness tampering charges in Flagler County.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a release Thursday night, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of corrections officer 54-year-old Jose Guerra, a 19-year veteran of the agency.

The release states that Guerra was arrested by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 14 after a physical altercation.

According to the arrest report, authorities received a 911 call in which a woman could be heard shouting for help.

FCSO deputies went to the scene and made contact with the woman, who told them the suspect had choked and beat her. According to the report, deputies noted minor scratches on her and a red mark on her chest. 

The victim stated that Guerra had been violent toward her before.

The report states Guerra was detained by deputies and charged with a misdemeanor count of battery and a felony charge of witness tampering.

JSO says Guerra has been suspended without pay pending termination.

This is the third arrest of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office employee so far in 2026.
