For those of us in the South, going nearly two years without receiving an inch of snow is not unusual. In fact, it’s honestly expected.
But for Central Park, going 701 days without seeing a daily snow total top the one-inch mark was record-setting.
And then came Winter Storm Heather.
After making a cross-country trek, this system swept up the East Coast on Jan. 16, 2024, bringing snow along the I-95 corridor from the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast.
The Central Park weather station received 1.3 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service, effectively breaking the inchless snow streak for New York City on this day two years ago.

And that wasn’t the only snow drought that was broken throughout the duration of this storm.
Baltimore and Philadelphia both saw their 700+ inchless snow streaks snapped as well, receiving daily totals of 4.1 and 1.5 inches respectively.
