SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Edited News Release/KY3) – Oh, boys! Two litters of maned wolf pups were born in late November 2025 at Dickerson Park Zoo.
Two months later, on January 13, during the pups’ first physical exam by the zoo veterinarians and animal care teams, it was discovered that all five pups are males.
Parents Patti and Mario are off exhibit. Patti gave birth to two boys—Cinder and Ash—on November 28, 2025.
Catina and Lume are on exhibit in the South America area of Dickerson Park Zoo. Their boys, Cedar, Aspen, and Thistle, were born on November 24, 2025. While mom kept her boys behind the scenes, the pups are now exploring their exhibit and are often visible to zoo guests.
Maned wolves are native to South America. They look like a long-legged fox and are called wolves, but in fact, maned wolves are their own species.
Maned wolves are a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan and SAFE (Saving Animals from Extinction). Dickerson Park Zoo is proud to participate in both the Maned Wolf SSP and SAFE Maned Wolf.
The survival and protection of all species worldwide are a shared focus of AZA and its accredited members. The birth of five male maned wolves at Dickerson Park Zoo is not only an exciting announcement for the zoo staff, but also an important contribution to the future of maned wolves.
Dickerson Park Zoo is open daily during the winter from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
