A 31-year-old man suspected of robbing a Santee bank earlier this week was arrested three days after the heist as he tried to enter the U.S. from Mexico at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, a sheriff’s sergeant said Friday.
The robbery happened just after 9 a.m. Monday at the Chase Bank branch on Town Center Parkway at Mission Gorge Road, Sgt. Justin Crews said in a news release.
According to Crews, a man dressed in black and wearing sunglasses handed a teller a note demanding money.
Investigators obtained video surveillance, Crews said, and deputies from the Santee sheriff’s station recognized the suspect.
The suspect was arrested just before 7 p.m. Thursday as he tried to cross the U.S.-Mexico border on foot at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, Crews said.
Online records indicate the man remained jailed Friday in lieu of $100,000 bail.
