AVENTURA, Fla. — As South Florida enjoys a brief cooldown, one fitness trend is turning the heat right back up: hot Pilates.
Heated Pilates workouts are gaining popularity across the region, fueled in part by social media buzz and a growing interest in workouts that challenge both the body and the mind. One local studio at the center of the trend is Body Hot Pilates, co-founded by South Florida native and former collegiate soccer player Lyndsey Meade.
Located in Aventura, Body Hot Pilates offers mat-based Pilates classes in a room heated to nearly 100 degrees, pushing participants through 50-minute sessions designed to build strength, flexibility, and mental focus. Unlike traditional Pilates studios, there are no reformer machines—just a mat, bodyweight movements, and heat.
“We have hot Pilates, which is based off my style of Pilates that combines strength and athleticism with classical Pilates,” Meade said. “We have hot Pilates sculpt, which is a little more strength-focused, but still with a lot of Pilates principles. And then we have some body-focus classes. We have abs and arms and abs and booty. We also have a really fun HIIT class.”
Meade’s path to Pilates began with injury. While playing college soccer, she turned to Pilates as part of her rehabilitation, an experience she says transformed more than just her physical health.
“I got injured during one of my college games, and my rehab was Pilates,” Meade said. “It healed more than just my body, but my mind as well. I started teaching Pilates a few years ago and really fell in love with it and created my own style that combined my athletic background with my love for classical Pilates.”
According to Meade, the heated environment helps to detoxify the body.
“The heat is so good for detoxifying the body,” she said. “It detoxifies you gently from the inside out and adds a little bit of an extra challenge to the class.”
For those new to Pilates or intimidated by heated workouts, Meade emphasizes inclusivity. Classes are designed for all levels, with instructors consistently offering modifications.
“I know it can be super intimidating here in Miami. You don’t have to feel intimidated here because our classes are all level, our staff is so amazing and kind,” Meade said. “What’s amazing about Body and what sets us apart is all of our teachers always offer a modification, and don’t be afraid of those modifications because our body changes every single day.”
Body Hot Pilates has recently expanded beyond its original Aventura location, opening a new studio in Coral Gables. The brand is also planning its next expansion into Fort Lauderdale.
