Pool 3 of the Investec Champions Cup reaches a dramatic conclusion at Stade Marcel-Deflandre, where La Rochelle and Harlequins meet with very different pressures but equally high stakes.

While Harlequins have already secured a place in the Round of 16, La Rochelle enters Round 4 with no margin for error, needing a win to keep its Champions Cup campaign alive.

Harlequins arrive in France riding one of the most explosive runs in the competition.

The Quins clinched qualification with a 61–10 win over the DHL Stormers in Round 3, snapping a three-match losing streak and recording their second consecutive Champions Cup match with 60 or more points. Through three rounds, Harlequins hold the best point difference in the entire 24-team field.

However, pool positioning is still in play. Leinster has locked up the top spot in Pool 3, and the Stormers moved ahead of Harlequins after their Round 4 win. A victory at La Rochelle would secure second-place for Harlequins, while a loss could see them drop as low as fourth.

For La Rochelle, the situation is more urgent. Despite strong performances at home, La Rochelle enters the final round trailing Leicester Tigers on point difference, sitting at minus-3 compared to Leicester’s plus-3. That means only a win, draw or a bonus point loss on Sunday will send La Rochelle into the Champions Cup playoffs.

Anything less would eliminate the French side from the Round of 16 and redirect them to the Challenge Cup. Playing at Stade Marcel-Deflandre, one of the most demanding environments in European rugby, La Rochelle will look to turn home advantage into a season-saving result against a confident Harlequins side.

La Rochelle hosts Harlequins at 10:15 a.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 18, at Stade Marcel-Deflandre in La Rochelle, France, as Pool 3 play concludes in the Investec Champions Cup.
