The weekend construction of Interstate 30 in downtown Dallas has begun, resulting in road closures, shutdowns, and delays for North Texas drivers.

This is a planned construction activity by the Texas Department of Transportation.

According to TxDOT, all lanes of east- and westbound I-30 are set to be closed between the I-35E and I-45/U.S. 75 interchanges, as part of the ongoing I-30 Canyon corridor improvement project.

Closures were planned to be in effect starting Friday at 10 p.m. and are expected to continue through Monday at 5 a.m.

Officials previously warned of significant traffic delays as a result of the closures. They urged people to avoid unnecessary travel in the area, if possible, and plan for longer travel times.

The same weekend closure and detour will likely be scheduled again later this month, and officials said they will provide details once it’s finalized.
