SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The U.S. Coast Guard said it intercepted a small boat carrying nine undocumented migrants about 19 miles west of Black’s Beach Saturday morning.

According to a news release, crew members aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Ward encountered a cuddy-cabin vessel going at a high rate of speed around 11:39 a.m.

A boarding team then intercepted the vessel, and all individuals on board the boat were detained. The Coast Guard said they were able to detain everyone without using force.

Officials said nine people on board claimed Mexican nationality.

They were transported by the Coast Guard to the Department of Homeland Security agency at Ballast Point.
