Phoenix area on pace for third-warmest January on record

  • January 19, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A very mild Sunday, as today’s highs have already reached 78 degrees. With an average temperature of 60.8 degrees, this has been the third warmest start to January on record (through Jan. 17).

Overnight lows will drop into the upper 40s, followed by a nice MLK day with highs around 75. The mild stretch will continue, with highs in the mid 70s on Tuesday and Wednesday, under mostly sunny skies.

Some clouds will push into our area on Thursday and Friday with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid 70s. Next weekend, there are signs that a cutoff low may try to approach our area. This will likely lead to slightly cooler temperatures with low 70s on Saturday and Sunday. If this cutoff low materializes, there would be a slight chance of rain. But don’t get your hopes up too much, as this is far from a sure thing.

For the high country, it will be a dry week. However, we will keep an eye on the above-mentioned potential cutoff low for next weekend. Mountain precipitation is not out of the question, but it may be a tough needle to thread. Stay tuned!
