Two main draw matches have been scheduled for Sunday at the ATP Mallorca Championships, alongside the matches that will wrap up the qualifying in the Balearic Islands. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for day one in Spain, but who will advance?

ATP Mallorca Day 1 Predictions
Brandon Holt vs Elias Ymer

Head-to-head: first meeting

Brandon Holt is enjoying the best season of his career, which has earned him some great opportunities -not least direct entry into the main draw at Wimbledon. As a result, instead of playing in Roehamptin, Holt has travelled to Mallorca and posted a strong win over Adam Walton in the first round of qualifying. Elias Ymer has the talent and grass-court experience to win this match, but with the Swede you never really know what his mindset will be like. Holt’s been solid even on this surface, helped out by the fact he’s that 5% more confident and aggressive this year. He should have just about enough to get past Ymer.

Prediction: Holt in 3

Mariano Navone vs Nishesh Basavareddy

Head-to-head: first meeting

Not many expected Mariano Navone to still be in this tournament by the final qualifying round, but he saved four match points before Sebastian Ofner retired at 1-3 down in the deciding set. The Argentinian has almost no grass-court experience and it definitely won’t be his favourite surface. Nishesh Basavareddy’s game suits the conditions at ATP Mallorca much better. Only way the American loses this one is if the marathon win against Botic van de Zandschulp heavily depleted his gas tank.

Prediction: Basavareddy in 2

Bu Yunchaokete vs Laslo Djere

Head-to-head: first meeting

Bu Yunchaokete has been struggling to find the level that brought him success in the Asian Swing last year. So far this season he has had one deep run to the Turin Challenger final, but lost in the opening round of his next three events. That includes a defeat to Henry Searle in Queen’s Club qualifying in his only match on grass so far in 2025. Laslo Djere might not be known for his prowess on the grass, but his serve and weight of shot can make him a threat in these conditions. Against an inexperienced opponent, expect Djere to have the edge.

Prediction: Djere in 2

Fabio Fognini vs Daniel Altmaier

Head-to-head: Fognini 2-0 Altmaier

Fabio Fognini is one of the last direct acceptances into Wimbledon main draw and will be trying to get some form going in Mallorca. The Italian is 4-13 for the year and has been struggling to pick up wins on grass which has never been his favourite surface as an indifferent record at the Championships reflects (it is the only Slam where he has never reached the second week). But then again, Daniel Altmaier could be a beatable opponent on grass. Fognini will need to pressure him quickly and make use of the German’s defensive positioning. Maybe he can channel some veteran magic like he did at Wimbledon last year.

Prediction: Fognini in 3
