Virgil van Dijk has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers for many years, but he’s now 34 and due to be out of contract in 2027.
The future of a number of Reds stars is somewhat uncertain as we head towards the 2026 summer transfer window.
It has been suggested that Joe Gomez could leave the club, while Ibrahima Konate is due to become a free agent, and Van Dijk is in the final 18 months of his deal.

While centre-back appears to be an area that could experience much change in the coming year or so, Liverpool have a few more players they may tie down to new contracts to ensure their futures are at Anfield.
Multiple Liverpool players in contract talks
A report from The Times has said that Konate has been in talks over a new deal for 15 months now, but an agreement has yet to be reached.
Elsewhere, Liverpool want to sign Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai to new contracts.
Alexis Mac Allister’s team have also been contacted about a potential extension, but conversations over changing the Argentine’s terms are not thought to have been in depth.
The trio are all currently tied down until the summer of 2028, with Szoboszlai himself confirming talks have taken place.
He said: “There has been talks but, for sure, not any decision has been made. There is always progress but no decision has been made and I’ll just keep on going every week, every training, giving my best for the team, for the fans. Let’s see what is going to happen in the future.”
Interestingly, the report adds that the former RB Leipzig man is ‘viewed as a potential future club captain’.

It would make sense for Szoboszlai to be given the armband once Van Dijk departs in the coming years.
Liverpool have a shortage of experienced leaders right now, with the Dutchman and Mohamed Salah among the oldest players at the club.
Salah is facing an uncertain future at Anfield, with suggestions that he could leave at the end of this season.
The 33-year-old has spent the last month away at the AFCON, but Szoboszlai revealed he’s still been in contact with the Egyptian.
He said: “Yes, to be honest almost every day [he’s in contact with Salah]. We speak about everything. We talk a lot.
“That’s between me and him [what he wants to do]. He will come back and then we just keep on going. He will be here and it’s the decision [between] the manager and the club. It is not about us, it is about him.”
