Community input sought on traffic circles

The Carlsbad City Council is seeking community input before its July 29 meeting on whether to move forward with a project to install traffic circles at five intersections in the Barrio or explore different ways to reduce speeding. The Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation donated $100,000 to four area nonprofits during the 34th Annual Sycuan Cup Golf Tournament at Singing Hills Golf Club. The event brought together members of the Sycuan Tribe, event sponsors and beneficiaries to support community education and social programs along with health and human services. The Sycuan Tribal Council presented $25,000 to each nonprofit, including SBCS (formerly South Bay Community Services), which helps children, youths and families, HorsePlay Collective, which provides equine-assisted therapy; War Party Ranch, which equips women in need with job and life skills and Elymash Yuuchaap Scholars and Leaders Program at the Native Resource Center at San Diego State University. Summer Block Party

Tramonto Music Festival at library

The Tramonto Music Festival will be held July 18-20 featuring three concerts at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. Tramonto is produced by Jacopo Giacopuzzi and features an ensemble of international musicians, including violinist Anastasiya Petryshak, pianists Jacopo Giacopuzzi and Maddalena Giacopuzzi, and cellist Gabriel Fiol. The first concert, Liquid Harmonies, is at 7 p.m. July 18 and will include Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” Richter’s “Fountains of Rome,” Respighi’s “Aquarium” and Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan.” The Echoes of the South concert is at 7 p.m. July 19 featuring the musical traditions of Spain and South America including works by Villa-Lobos, Skoryk, Ravel and Piazzolla. The nonprofit Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation is running a virtual gala fundraiser through July 30 to keep the flags flying at Miramar National Cemetery. Art exhibit opens at Casa Familiar

Casa Familiar opens a new art exhibition, “Infinite Rivers,” which explores art practices, traditions and crafts that have been passed down through generations. The exhibit runs through Sept. 13. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. July 12 at The Front Arte & Cultura gallery, 147 W. San Ysidro Blvd. The exhibit features Indigenous artists from the Kumeyaay community, Chemehuevi, Zapotec, Huichol, Taraumara communities, as well as artists from San Diego and Tijuana, Lebanon and Colombia. Photos should be sent as JPEGs. Include the names of those in the photos from left to right along with the photo credit and permission from the photographer to use the photo in The San Diego Union-Tribune.
