MONTREAL — Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin will miss the Olympics with a lower-body injury, a league source confirmed to The Athletic on Tuesday.

Brodin’s timeline for a return to the Wild lineup is six to eight weeks. NHL Olympians are scheduled to leave for Milan on Feb. 7, with the gold-medal game on Feb. 22.

Sweden coach Sam Hallam had said in an interview with Sportbladet on Monday that he wasn’t expecting Brodin to be available. He also said in that interview that he expects Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson to miss the Games but that he’d know more in a few days. The Ducks announced on Friday that Carlsson will miss three to five weeks after undergoing a procedure on his left thigh.

Hallam didn’t return a text message from The Athletic.

The injuries are adding up for the Swedes. Minnesota Wild center Joel Eriksson Ek, Colorado Avalanche winger Gabriel Landeskog, Toronto Maple Leafs winger William Nylander, Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman and Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson are also out of action right now.

“I know all the treatment guys around every team here in the NHL is so good that hopefully they can get them back in shape and go there,” Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson said after Monday’s win in Toronto. “If it happens they can’t be there, Sweden’s got a lot of good players in the NHL. We’re going to be just fine.”

Team Sweden hasn’t made any official roster changes yet.

Among the forwards who can be in the mix to be added to the roster are Wild winger Marcus Johansson, Calgary Flames center Mikael Backlund and San Jose Sharks winger William Eklund. Potential replacements on defense include the Detroit Red Wings’ Simon Edvinsson, Edmonton Oilers’ Mattias Ekholm and Boston Bruins’ Hampus Lindholm.
