Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky’s chief of staff Lamar Whitmer was led out of city hall by police during a packed planning commission meeting and placed on paid nondisciplinary suspension Jan. 14 because of possible policy violations, according to a spokeswoman for the city’s administration.
Allegations of policy violations by Whitmer were coming in as late as earlier Jan. 14, requiring action be taken then, city administration spokeswoman Holly Peralta said in a written statement released Jan. 20.
“As outlined in the city charter, the mayor and members of city council do not have direct oversight of city employees, with the exception of charter officers,” Peralta said. “The mayor’s chief of staff position is not a charter officer position and is therefore supervised by the city manager. As a city employee, Mr. Whitmer is subject to all City of Scottsdale personnel policies.”
