SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Savannah’s historic Lucas Theatre has been temporarily closed after bats were discovered in the theatre.
Officials with SCAD say the bats were found in the theatre’s rafters.
As a result, they have closed the theatre along with their in-house cafe.
A film screening scheduled for this week (The Natural) has been moved to SCAD’s Trustees Theater.
A representative from SCAD says though the bats have not caused any harm, their staff is taking immediate steps to ensure the continued safety of guests and staff.

SCAD has temporarily closed Savannah’s historic Lucas Theatre for the Arts and the adjacent cafe after bats were discovered in the theatre’s rafters. SCAD has engaged a licensed wildlife management company to humanely remove the bats in full compliance with state and federal wildlife protection guidelines.
While the bats have not caused any harm, SCAD has taken immediate steps to ensure the continued safety of guests and staff.
A film screening scheduled for this week has been moved to SCAD’s Trustees Theater. Scheduled events for the rest of this month are being reviewed in coordination with event organizers to determine appropriate next steps. The bat removal process could be completed as early as next week.
