Warmer temperatures could impact the Chicago area in coming days, along with several rounds of showers and thunderstorms.

That does include the potential for severe weather, specifically on Friday night, according to forecast models and the Storm Prediction Center.

Thursday should be a mostly dry day in the area, with high temperatures in the 80s and partly-to-mostly sunny skies, according to the NBC 5 Storm team.

Hazardous beach conditions could occur however, with strong winds on Lake Michigan potentially causing large waves and rip currents that could make swimming dangerous.

Thursday night and Friday morning could see a series of showers and thunderstorms rolling through the region, though at this time it is not expected that the storms will be severe in nature, according to the SPC.

As the storms clear out Friday, temperatures could rise into the low-90s, according to forecast models, though the warm-up isn’t expected to last for long, as temps should dip back into the mid-80s for most of the weekend.

That’s because another storm system could wind its way through the area Friday evening and even into Saturday morning, paving the way for more showers and thunderstorms. That system has parts of the Chicago area at a “marginal” risk of severe storms, according to the SPC.

The main threats with any storms that develop would likely be gusty winds and heavy rain, though forecast models could change in coming days.

After those showers and storms finally move out, the rest of the weekend could be dry, though there is a possibility of more rain on Sunday. Current model guidance indicates those storms could stay to the south of the NBC 5 viewing area, but new models will tell the story as the weekend draws closer.

Another chance of rain is set to arrive by Tuesday as temperatures climb again into the low-90s, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
