East Fort Worth’s Sycamore Community Park is getting a $1 million cash infusion from Texas that will help accelerate the installation of improvements to the park.
State Rep. Nicole Collier, D-Fort Worth, a member of the Texas House Appropriations Committee, presented City Council with a mock $1 million check at its Jan. 13 meeting.
Parks “are boons to our economy and they create safe spaces, places for our community to come together,” Collier told council members. “We know that the city of Fort Worth understands the importance of having safe spaces for all people.”

Mayor Mattie Parker thanked Collier for her work representing the city.
“You spend countless hours and, as a result, Fort Worth benefits and we’re incredibly thankful,” Parker told Collier.
The city is underway on the first phase of improvements to the park under the implementation of a master plan.
“Depending on the costs, it is expected this (new) funding will be used for a playground/splashpad and restroom building in the northwest portion of the park, near the iconic hilltop pavilion,” said Karen Stuhmer, spokesperson for the city’s parks department.
“This will help speed the process up,” Dave Lewis, Fort Worth’s park and recreation director, told the council.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife department will administer the funding. Stuhmer said the city expects it will take a few months to receive the money.
