Manchester United are continuing to try to get the deal done for Bryan Mbeumo. Here’s the latest.
More than a month has passed since it emerged on June 2 that Bryan Mbeumo had his heart set on leaving Brentford to sign with Manchester United.
This was just one day after United completed the signing of Matheus Cunha, and United fans were pleased to see business being conducted at an unusually rapid pace.
Negotiations with Brentford have been painfully slow, and it has stunted the fragile optimism United fans were trying to rebuild after a horrific 2024/25 season.
With no other incoming or outgoing deal concluded during the past five weeks since Cunha was unveiled, there are concerns building, and a real need to get the Mbeumo deal completed.

Manchester United had aimed to complete the Bryan Mbeumo deal by the end of June, or at least by the time the players returned for pre-season. Everybody is still waiting.
United In Focus spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey about the situation, and he explains that a deal is ‘close’ and a new completion target date has been set.
We understand that having missed their own in-house deadline of the start of pre-season training to have Bryan Mbeumo signed and sealed, now we understand that plan is to have him on-board ahead of the pre-season trip to America later this month.
While United play Leeds in Sweden on July 19, the team will travel to the USA in the following days, with the first match taking place against West Ham on July 26.
Bailey explained: “It is believed that talks are continuing between United and Brentford and that a deal is actually close.
“A deal in the region of £65 million is close to being agreed, although delays have mainly been around payment plans, make-up of instalments, as well as potential add-ons and bonuses.
“Old Trafford sources are of the belief that Mbeumo will be a United player sooner rather than later, indeed plans are in place for him to be a United player for their American pre-season trip.”
Mbeumo fully focused on Manchester United
Bryan Mbeumo has not returned to pre-season with Brentford yet. And while he will be as frustrated as anybody about the delay, his desire has not changed.
Bailey adds: “We are told that Mbeumo has already made it clear to Brentford that he had little intention of returning to the club for pre-season making it clear to them that his focus was on joining United.
“Let’s not forget he shunned other clubs including Newcastle and Tottenham to join United – he is fully focused on becoming a Red Devil.
“I am told that a potential sale of Yoane Wissa – will not have any impact on Mbeumo’s own exit.”
Ruben Amorim is claimed to also be determined to have Mbeumo on board the club’s trip to the US, and it seems absolutely essential that United close the deal.
Adding Mbeumo alongside Cunha will vastly improve United’s attacking options for next season, adding two proven Premier League performers, and hopefully there will be further reinforcements too.
