Lane Kiffin is still seven months away from making his debut as LSU’s football coach, and yet, he has already managed to infuriate a portion of the fan base.

LSU signed Kiffin to a seven-year deal that has an annual starting salary of $13 million. His decision to leave Ole Miss right before the start of the College Football Playoff was the talk of the sports world for a few days. He had an 11-1 season with the Rebels before taking his talents to Baton Rouge.

Even though Kiffin has done a pretty good job building up LSU’s roster, he lost a few supporters this weekend because he sent a message to President Donald Trump online.

On Friday night, Kiffin posted a photo of a few “Make Baton Rouge Great” hats on social media. Apparently, people didn’t appreciate that he tagged Trump’s account on the platform formerly known as Twitter.

“You’re so pathetic,” one fan replied.

“20 year LSU fan here and NO LONGER am one after seeing this post,” a second fan commented. “Thank god I went with my gut in not like this hire!”

“Guess I’ve watched my last @LSUfootball game for the foreseeable future,” a third fan replied. “You couldn’t have had the decency to make it until the preseason to keep the act that you’re not an [expletive].”

“You just don’t know when to quit while you’re ahead,” another fan said. “You’re disgusting.”

Kiffin eventually deleted the post on X after receiving countless more complaints. However, he then reposted the same image but without tagging Trump.

What to expect from Lane at LSU?

Some fans might be annoyed by Kiffin’s social media activity but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a really innovative coach.

As for Kiffin’s roster, he got himself a star quarterback for the 2026 season in Sam Leavitt. The former Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year had a great run at Arizona State before agreeing to terms with LSU.

If Kiffin leads LSU to the promised land at some point over the next few years, that’ll most likely silence his critics.
