With treacherous road conditions and bitter cold forecast to last another 48 hours, Dallas ISD on Sunday canceled Tuesday classes.

A winter storm slammed North Texas on Saturday, bringing sleet, ice, snow and bitter cold. Numerous flights have been canceled and motor vehicle accidents are piling up.

School districts and colleges across North Texas held classes Friday but canceled evening and weekend activities. On Saturday as the storm blew into Dallas-Fort Worth, they quickly canceled Monday classes.

Conditions have continued to worsen. Highs were forecast to remain in the 20s, with lows in the teens and single digits through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, with an overnight low of 8 degrees expected. The temperature is not expected to rise above freezing until about noon Tuesday.

On Sunday afternoon, Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD and districts in Collin and Denton counties made the call to cancel classes on Tuesday.

Districts look at multiple factors when deciding whether to cancel school.

In Dallas ISD for example, school personnel drive through the streets near schools to assess road conditions, according to district policy. They also check in with the weather service, police and gas and utility companies. They communicate their findings to Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde, who makes the final call.

Sunday night is expected to be the coldest night across North and Central Texas since at least January 2024 — and possibly since December 2022 or February 2021, according to the National Weather Service’s office in Fort Worth.

In parts of the northwest counties, temperatures could even fall below zero tonight if clouds clear out sufficiently.

Allen ISD

Allen ISD campuses and offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Kids Club will also be canceled. The district expects classes to be held as scheduled on Wednesday.

Anna ISD

Classes are canceled Monday and Tuesday.

“While the District fully expects classes to be held as scheduled on Wednesday, January 28th, we will continue to consult with local emergency personnel, and additional communication will be shared with families and staff on Tuesday,” the district said.

Arlington ISD

Arlington ISD classes are canceled for Monday and Tuesday.

Aubrey ISD

All campuses and administrative offices will be closed through Tuesday.

Birdville ISD

All Birdville school and district offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

The district said “maintenance and custodial crews continue to monitor our buildings to ensure our facilities are ready for students and staff to return on Wednesday, January 28.”

Carrollton-Farmers Branch

All Monday and Tuesday classes and after-school activities are canceled.

Cedar Hill ISD

All campuses and facilities will remain closed through Tuesday. All athletic, extracurricular and after-school activities are canceled or will be rescheduled, the district said. Dallas ISD

All Monday and Tuesday classes are canceled.

“All athletic events and practices (indoor and outdoor) are postponed,” according to the district. Dallas ISD plans to reopen Wednesday.

Denton ISD

The district will be closed Monday and Tuesday. Coaches, activity directors, and sponsors will reach out to students and families about schedule changes for before- and after-school activities.

The district said it will address schools operations for Wednesday in its next update.

DeSoto ISD

All DeSoto ISD campuses and offices will be closed Tuesday. All after-school activities are canceled.

Duncanville ISD

Duncanville ISD will be closed Monday and Tuesday. All classes and after-school activities are canceled, and district offices will be closed.

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD

The district will be closed Monday and Tuesday but said it expects to return to a normal schedule on Wednesday.

Fort Worth ISD

Classes are canceled for Monday and Tuesday. Athletics, after-school programs and other district and campus activities set for Tuesday are canceled or will be rescheduled.

Frisco ISD

Frisco ISD will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to inclement weather and poor road conditions.

Garland ISD

All Garland ISD schools and offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

“At this time, we anticipate classes will be held as scheduled on Wednesday, January 28, 2026,” the district said. “Any updates will be communicated to families and staff on Tuesday.”

Grand Prairie ISD

All Grand Prairie ISD schools and offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD

The district will be closed Monday and Tuesday. The closures do not affect iUniversity Prep staff or student schedules, the district said on social media. The district said it expects to be back to normal operations on Tuesday.

Irving ISD

All Irving ISD classes and UIL activities have been canceled for Monday and Tuesday. The Irving ISD Administration Building and all Irving ISD schools will remain closed, the district said in a news release. Irving ISD said it expects operations to return to normal on Wednesday.

Keller ISD

Keller ISD schools are closed Monday and Tuesday. Visit KellerISD.net/Weather for additional details.

Lancaster ISD

School is canceled on Monday and Tuesday. All athletic games scheduled for Tuesday have been moved to Wednesday for now. The district it will continue monitoring weather conditions for Wednesday.

Mansfield ISD

Mansfield ISD will be closed Monday and Tuesday “due to the ongoing extremely low temperatures predicted to continue through Tuesday morning.”

The status of after-school activities for Tuesday is undecided, the district said in a social media post. More information will be sent as soon as a decision is made.

McKinney ISD

All McKinney ISD schools and facilities will be closed Monday and Tuesday. All school-related activities are canceled. “We anticipate a normal school day on Wednesday,” the district said.

Melissa ISD

The district canceled classes and all extracurricular activities for Monday and Tuesday.

Melissa ISD said that because “our current school calendar already includes additional instructional minutes, the Tuesday closure will not affect the school calendar, and no Bad Weather Days will need to be used at this time.”

Mesquite ISD

District campuses and offices will remain closed Monday and Tuesday.

“We understand that school closures affect family schedules and routines, which is why we wanted to share this update early,” the district said. “We encourage everyone to stay off the roads and take care by remaining safe and warm.”

The district said it hopes to return to a normal schedule on Wednesday.

Northwest ISD

The district will be closed through Tuesday.

Plano ISD

Plano ISD schools and facilities will remain closed through Tuesday. All district and campus activities are canceled through Tuesday due to freezing temperatures and ongoing snow and ice accumulation.

“At this time, we anticipate classes will resume as scheduled on Wednesday, January 28,” the district said in a news release. “Any updates regarding Wednesday will be communicated on Tuesday.”

Prosper ISD

Classes are canceled Monday and Tuesday. Coaches, directors, and sponsors will contact teams and students directly regarding the rescheduling of any events originally scheduled, the district said.

Richardson ISD

All Richardson ISD schools and offices will remain closed on Tuesday. All games and events, including Xplore” are canceled through Tuesday.

“District facility teams will use the extra day to evaluate all district campuses and buildings for any storm related damage and clean up if necessary,” Richardson ISD said in a social media post.

The district said it will update families and staff about any potential make up days as soon as possible.

Rockwall ISD

Rockwall ISD schools and support offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday, the district announced. All before- and after-school activities are canceled, “including ROCK and all practices, rehearsals and extracurricular events.”

Southlake Carroll ISD

All Monday and Tuesday classes and after-school activities are canceled.

“At this time, we are planning for classes to resume on Wednesday, January 28, on a normal schedule,” the district said in a social media post, “however, please continue to monitor all CISD communication channels for further updates.
