Travelers face delays, cancellations at JAX

  • January 26, 2026

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Dozens of travelers faced disrupted plans Sunday as flight cancellations mounted at Jacksonville International Airport, with more than 80 flights cancelled by early morning, according to FlightAware.

“We were supposed to leave at 6 am,” said Leah Ware, who along with her husband Rob was trying to return to Cleveland. Their American Airlines flight was pushed back to 10 am.

The impact varied among passengers. Tiphani Lee, traveling to Las Vegas, encountered a relatively minor setback. “We came here from Savannah so we’re just making sure that we got here in a good enough time. It’s all good – 40 minutes isn’t the worst,” Lee said.

For those arriving in Jacksonville, the scene was notably quiet. Derrick Johnson, flying in from New York, described sparse conditions at JFK. “Lots of cancellations. This morning, whenever we arrived, there was barely people in the airport, so we probably had less than 20 people on our flight,” Johnson said, noting his flight was “the last one out of JFK today.”

The airport had anticipated potential disruptions, warning travelers via social media on Friday about possible winter weather impacts on weekend travel plans.

For affected passengers, airlines are required to offer refunds under certain conditions. Travelers can request refunds for domestic flights delayed by three hours or more, while international flight delays must exceed six hours to qualify for refund eligibility.

The Wares, despite their four-hour delay, maintained perspective about their situation. “Lucky. Definitely lucky,” they said. “My heart goes out to everyone else that’s got their flight cancelled. Hopefully they get through.”
