Every year, countless basketball teams that struggled to make the playoffs the prior season rebound in impressive fashion to either contend for the district or make waves as a playoff surprise.

For whatever reason — youth and inexperience, coaching changes or injury — below is a list of teams that went through some rough patches last season, but are positioning themselves this time around to earn a spot in the playoffs.

Boys BasketballAnna

2024-25: 12-21, 5-8

2025-26: 19-6, 7-0

Anna’s crop of young talent that missed the playoffs last year has grown up and flourished into a district favorite. Senior Keyshawn Myles was a standout at Prosper Rock Hill before transferring to Anna and now he’s leading the program in points and rebounds with 16.5 points and 7.9 boards per game. But junior Karson Jones’ development has played a key role too, leading the team in assists with 3.5 assists and five rebounds per game.

Farmersville

2024-25: 12-16, 1-9

2025-26: 22-2, 2-1

One of the more resurgent stories in the D-FW area this season has been Farmersville who, at one point, went winless in district from 2021 to 2023. The team already has more wins than the previous two seasons combined and are led by the junior guard combo of Koby Chavez and Christian Smith. Farmersville hasn’t won district since 2012-13.
