District officials said 33 students were on board at the time of the crash.

Five students were transported to a hospital for evaluation with non-life-threatening injuries. Another five students were released to their parents or returned to campus, while the remaining students were safely picked up by families, according to a statement shared by the district.

The bus driver was the only patient who required urgent transport to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

“We are thankful that none of our students were seriously injured, and we are praying for our bus driver’s recovery,” Southwest ISD said in a statement. “The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. Parents of any student needing additional medical attention will be contacted directly.”

Southwest ISD confirmed to the San Antonio Report that the crash was not related to icy road conditions following the weekend’s cold weather. Southwest ISD Police Department and the San Antonio Police Department are conducting seperate investigations into the cause of the crash.

“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our families as we worked through this situation,” the district said. “Additional updates will be shared if needed.”
