SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man was sentenced to 40 years behind bars in connection to a violent robbery and kidnapping in 2022.
Paul Chacon was sentenced in a district court on Tuesday for multiple charges, including aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping.
Prosecutors say Chacon was involved in the assault and kidnapping of Joe Anthony Guerra, whose decomposed body was found in April 2022, and the robbery of Anthony Orozco.
A cellphone video revealed Chacon and a co-defendant violently assaulting Guerra, while another video showed Chacon robbing Orozco of his clothing and jewelry. The co-defendant’s case is still pending trial.
“Violence of this magnitude cannot go unanswered, and today’s outcome reflects our commitment to holding those responsible fully accountable,” District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement.
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Melissa Rust and Caleb Bortner led the prosecution, supported by Victim Advocate Laura Covarrubias and Investigator Jim Cheatham.
