- Protesters took over the lobby of the Tribeca Hilton on Tuesday night, where they say immigration agents are staying
- NY1 reached out to both Hilton and the Department of Homeland Security about the claims tied to this location, but has not heard back
- Hundreds also gathered in the bitter cold at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan, protesting ICE and expressing outrage over the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis
“People have been tracking ICE movements and ICE actions,” Michael-Luca Natt, organizer for Sunrise Movement NYC, said.
Those actions led some 70 people to the hotel lobby, prompting dozens of arrests.
The protest happened just blocks from places where immigration arrests have been reported, including 26 Federal Plaza and Canal Street.
“They’re taking people off the streets and not just taking them away, our neighbors and our community members, but killing them blatantly in broad daylight with no due process,” Natt said.
NY1 reached out to both Hilton and the Department of Homeland Security about the claims tied to this location, but has not heard back.
At the same time, another protest unfolded just a mile away.
Hundreds gathered in the bitter cold at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan, protesting ICE and expressing outrage over the killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good in Minneapolis, shootings involving federal immigration agents.
“I’d like to see as many people out here to sway the federal government from sending immigration agents to come and kill New Yorkers,” James from Brooklyn said.
Among the crowd was Matt from Brooklyn, who’s originally from the Minneapolis area.
“I’ve felt a strong pull back home all week. And I just really needed to be out here around people that felt similarly,” Matt said.
He said what he’s been seeing back home made it impossible to stay away.
“This feels different. This feels on the precipice of it being a lot more scary,” Matt said.
