Depending on your neighborhood, it’s probably safe to get out and about again this weekend, and the slate of events across Fort Worth will be worth seeing. Choices include a film festival, a cabaret production honoring the Queen of Soul, a concert featuring rising classical music stars, two local theater productions, two country concerts (with an extended stay for one act), screenings of a new film, a classic Disney film with its score played live by a symphony, and a comedian.

Denton Black Film Festival
The Denton Black Film Festival was created to address under-representation in film and media by giving Black stories an audience and Black creatives a platform. Featuring over 95 films, live performances, music, art, tech showcases, and more, highlights include opening night film, Quakertown USA, the documentary Bastards of Soul, the documentary A Portrait of a Postman, and a closing night concert by Kandace Springs. The festival takes place through Sunday at multiple venues in Denton.
Casa Mañana presents Aretha: The Queen of Soul
Casa Mañana will present the iconic music of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, alongside the hits of Wilson Pickett, one of soul’s most dynamic voices. With her soaring vocals and striking charisma, Franklin gave the world masterpieces like “Respect,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” and “Think.” Performers include Destinee Rea and Curtis Wiley. The production runs through February 22 in the Reid Cabaret Theatre at Casa Mañana.
The Cliburn presents Shelén Hughes Camacho and Joseph Parrish in concert
Rising vocal stars Shelén Hughes Camacho, soprano, and Joseph Parrish, baritone, will make their Cliburn Concerts debut alongside Amir Farid, piano, performing a program that spans spirituals, opera, art song, and musical theater. The concert takes place in the Renzo Piano Pavilion at Kimbell Art Museum.
Stage West Theatre presents Where We Stand
Your town stands at a crossroads. A neighbor – desperate and out of options – has struck a dangerous bargain. Now, their fate lies in your hands. In this interactive play presented as a town hall gathering, the audience must choose: mercy or justice? Liz Mikel plays a lone storyteller who weaves a world through music and magic – part fable, part call-and-response. The future of the town – and the fate of a soul – hang in the balance. The play, making its regional premiere, is a co-production with Dallas Theater Center. It will run through February 15 at Stage West Theatre.
Wynn Williams in concert
Singer Wynn Williams is a true cowboy turned country music artist. After graduating from college in 2016, the Weatherford native and steer wrestler swapped his spurs for a guitar. He has released a number of EPs and albums in his 10-year music career, most recently Country Therapy in 2025. He’ll make his debut at Billy Bob’s Texas.

Magnolia at the Modern: Dead Man’s Wire
Set in 1977 and based on a true story, Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård), a former real estate developer, uses a shotgun fitted with a dead man’s switch to hold hostage the mortgage banker who did him wrong (Dacre Montgomery), demanding $5 million and a personal apology. The film, which also features performances by Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Kelly Lynch, and Al Pacino, will screen seven times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents “Disney’s The Lion King In Concert”
Audiences can watch the timeless Disney classic The Lion King on the big screen as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra brings every note to life, performing the complete score live on stage. Families can share the nostalgia of songs like “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata” while creating cherished new memories among their pride. There will be performances on Friday and Saturday at Bass Performance Hall.
Hyena’s presents Annie Lederman
Annie Lederman, who tours worldwide as a stand-up comedian, recently wrote and produced on Showtime’s Who is America? She was a cast member on MTV’s Girl Code, and was a regular panelist on @Midnight, Chelsea Lately, Comedy Knockout, and more. She also hosts the podcast, Anniewood, offering fans an exclusive, weekly peek into her world alongside friends. She’ll perform twice on Friday at Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub.
Turnpike Troubadours in concert
For the third time in a row, Oklahoma country band Turnpike Troubadours will play multiple nights in a row for their visit to Billy Bob’s Texas. The band has been recording music since 2007, but they hit their stride with their three albums in the late 2010s/early 2020s, each of which made the top 10 on the Billboard Country chart and ranked high on the overall Billboard 200 as well. They’ll play every night through Sunday in support of their 2025 album, The Price of Admission.

Circle Theatre presents A Night With Janis Joplin
A Night with Janis Joplin is a tribute to the legendary rock and blues singer, celebrating her life, her influences, and the raw power of her music. Through a concert-style journey, Janis shares the stage with the voices of trailblazing women who shaped her sound – from Aretha Franklin to Bessie Smith. The production will run through February 21 at Circle Theatre. (NOTE: Scheduled performances on January 29 and 30 have been canceled.)
