Delhi, N.Y. – A Delaware County man killed his wife by injecting her with multiple doses of meth and fentanyl over a 24-hour period, prosecutors say.
A jury on Friday found the man, Justin T. Valk, 49, guilty of murder with depraved indifference to human life, according to the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office. He killed his wife, Stephanie Valk, 47, in their home in Davenport in August 2022. He was arrested on Aug. 5, 2022.
The jury, during a three-week trial, saw videos that Valk made of his wife as she became seriously sick, struggled to breathe, move or speak, and eventually started seizing and convulsing on the floor, prosecutors said.
Valk mocked his dying wife in the videos, despite her cries for help.
At one point, a State Police investigator came to the home on another matter, prosecutors said. He told the officer his wife was fine and sleeping, they said. The investigator left.
Evidence was presented in trial to show that the marriage was on the rocks, prosecutors said. Justin Valk was seeking divorce and had been engaging in an affair with a friend of his wife prior to the murder, they said.
Stephanie Valk, a mother of six children, was a nurse and high school teaching assistant, according to her obituary. She also served on the board of a local agency that helped the homeless.
Valk was found guilty of multiple felonies:
- Second-degree murder
- First-degree assault
- First-degree reckless endangerment
- Three counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 25.
