Zohran Mamdani could have “F—kin’ Problems.”
Superstar rapper A$AP Rocky dropped Wednesday that he’s testing the waters for a potential bid at becoming New York City’s mayor.
The 37-year-old Harlem native and Rihanna paramour – whose real name is Rakim Athelston Mayers – revealed his political dreams during a wide-ranging video interview accompanying a new Esquire magazine profile.

When asked about hints he’d want to run for mayor, the Grammy-winning rapper made his ambition clear: “2029 – vote for Mayor Mayers. Vote for Rocky.”
A run by Rocky likely would put him on a collision course with the Big Apple’s current hip-hop Hizzoner – fledgling Mayor Mamdani, who had a much less successful pre-politics rap career under the name Mr. Cardamom.
Rocky didn’t mention mention Mamdani during the interview, but echoed the Democratic socialist’s call for sweeping political change.
“I think that I would really do well because I’m a guy that’s for the people,” he said.
“See pot holes, fix them. The rates for the trains, like the train fare just went up to $3. It’s f—king crazy. Inflation is crazy. SNAP and welfare and food stamps and all of these benefits — it’s f—d up because that’s where I derive from. Creating more job opportunities, create better health care.”

Rocky’s announcement of a potential run just weeks into Mamdani’s administration echoes the early tease he did for his latest release, “Don’t Be Dumb.” The rapper first discussed the project in 2022 but the recording took nearly four years to see the light of day.
A spokesperson for the potential mayoral candidate did not respond to an inquiry about whether the album title was a sneak diss against the new mayor nor whether he had any advice on closing the $12 billion city budget gap.
If Rocky actually runs for mayor and wins, then that would mean Rihanna would become New York City’s First Lady.
The “fashion killa” likely wouldn’t have to spend time raising pesos for his run being the hubby to his billionaire mega-star wife.
The power couple has been together since 2020 and have three children.
