PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — A Philadelphia man’s home was flooded on Thursday night after a possible water main break in the city’s Fairmount neighborhood.
It happened around 9:15 p.m. along the 2300 block of Aspen Street.
The Action Cam was on the scene as water was pouring up out of the sidewalk and rushing down the street.
Bill Rapone, an 80-year-old Vietnam veteran, said firefighters had to help him turn off the heater after 3 inches of water filled his basement.
“I was upstairs getting ready for bed about an hour ago … The next thing I know I hear this rumbling, and my neighbor, I heard her banging. So I came out … I thought it was just in the street. The water main broke, I guess, and my basement – I think I got the worst of it,” he said.
Crews with the Philadelphia Water Department are on the scene and have shut the water off. It’s still unclear how many residents are impacted.
“I’m an ex-paratrooper, so I’m pretty resilient,” said Rapone. “Hey, I made it through Vietnam, I can make it through this, right?”
