The Oregon State women’s basketball team allowed San Diego only four made baskets in the second half on its way to a 61-43 home win over the Toreros on Thursday night in Corvallis.
The Beavers were clinging to a two-point halftime lead before pulling away in the second half. Oregon State put together a 10-point spurt in the fourth quarter to take command of the game. Ally Schimel hit a 3-pointer, and Kennedie Shuler converted a layup during that winning run.
Shuler finished the game with a career-high 24 points and three steals, while Tiara Bolden added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Oregon State (16-6) improved to 8-1 in the West Coast Conference, maintaining a half-game lead over second-place Santa Clara.
The Beavers host San Francisco at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gill Coliseum.
In other women’s games Thursday, Portland State held a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter before falling 69-63 at Montana. Kyleigh Brown led the Vikings with 20 points.
The Portland Pilots scored a 68-42 win over Saint Mary’s, outscoring the Gaels 20-5 in the second quarter to break the game open. Nicole Anderson led the Pilots with 18 points — all coming from behind the 3-point arc.
