HUNTSVILLE, Texas–McNeese women’s tennis picked up a 5-2 road win over Sam Houston, two days opening the season with a 6-0 home win over Alcorn to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Bearkats fall to 0-3 overall.
 
“I’m extremely proud of the way we competed today,” said head coach Sonia Carlson. “We knew this was going to be a battle, and our team showed up ready to fight from the very first point. Winning the doubles point set the tone and gave us real momentum going into singles. Elena Morales and Erica Hagi were rock solid and handled their business, and Salome Fluri and Ana Hollweg dug deep to grind out two huge three-set wins. This was a statement team win and a big step forward as we build confidence heading into next weekend.” 
 
The Cowgirls set the tone for the match by winning the doubles points with wins on courts one and three.
 
Elena Morales defeated Ella Fitcher for a 2-0 Cowgirl lead before Sam Houston recorded its first point with a win on court two.  Erica Hagi defeated Adit Venkatakrishnan, Salome Fluri defeated Nayuma Subba, and Ana Hollweg defeated Sara Sadadinovic for a 5-1 McNeese lead.  The Bearkats picked up its second point of the day with a win on court three.
 

McNeese will return home on Monday for a10 a.m. match against Lubbock Christian, its final home match until it’s March 7 Southland Conference match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

• It the first of 10 of the next 12 matches that will be played on the road
Salome Fluri extended her winning streak to 21 matches dating back to last season, currently the NCAA’s longest winning streak.  Her last loss was on Feb. 2, 2025, at Central Arkansas.
• Return home on Monday, Feb. 2 to host Lubbock Christian at 10 a.m. 

• Following Monday’s match, the Cowgirl won’t play a home match until its March 7 conference match against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
