BAE Systems has been awarded nearly $100 million to perform maintenance and upgrades on a pair of Navy warships at its yard in San Diego Bay.

The ships include the USS Stockdale, a guided-missile destroyer which made headlines in November 2024 for helping repel missiles and drones when it came under attack by Iran-backed Houthis in the Red Sea.

BAE Systems will receive about $61 million to repair the San Diego-based Stockdale, which bears the name of the late James Bond Stockdale, a Navy aviator who received the Medal of Honor for the leadership and courage he showed while he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam in the 1960s.

Workers also will repair the USS Kansas City, one of the 16 high-speed littoral combat ships that are homeported in San Diego. The contract is worth $37 million.
