The South Carolina Stingrays scored four unanswered goals after a sluggish opening period to beat the Jacksonville Icemen 4-1 on Saturday night at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes, the Stingrays tied the game early in the second period on a power-play goal by Kaden Bohlsen at 6:40, then took the lead when Stan Cooley finished a backhand rebound with 3:21 remaining in the period. Two empty-net goals in the final two minutes sealed the win.

Jacksonville (17-20-2-0) grabbed an early lead when Matteo Costantini scored at the 11:28 mark of the first period. South Carolina goaltender Ty Taylor kept the deficit to one by stopping every other shot he faced in the period.

Taylor was sharp the rest of the way, turning aside 17 consecutive shots after the opening goal to earn his fourth win of the season. He helped preserve the lead in the third period as the Stingrays killed off an early penalty and weathered sustained pressure from the Icemen.

Josh Wilkins scored with 1:45 remaining after Jacksonville pulled its goaltender, and Patrick Thomas added another empty-netter in the final minute to cap the scoring.

South Carolina (27-14-1-0) received goals from four different players, and nine Stingrays recorded at least one point.

The Stingrays continue their three-game road trip Sunday afternoon against the Orlando Solar Bears. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Kia Center.
