PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Water main breaks across Philadelphia are impacting residents this weekend.
The issues in neighborhoods like Manayunk and North Philadelphia are creating flooding, water outages, and a lack of heat in bitter cold temperatures.
JD Mcgillicudy’s had to close due to flooding, they spent hours suctioning water out from their basement.
Due to the bitter cold temperatures and the amount of water, crews had to lay down salt to prevent what they could from icing over.
It was a similar scene in North Philadelphia.
“It was water everywhere it looked like a mud slide out here,” explained Dominique Cooper of North Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Water Department responded to a water main break along the 1500 block of Oakdale Stweet on Saturday.
“There was two feet of water in my basement. No heat, no hot water. The gas company was out here all morning. They said water got so high up to the tank that he’s unable to light it,” explained Charles Leonard of North Philadelphia.
Residents shared photos of their flooded basements, water several feet high with floating storage containers.
PGW says four properties now have appliance damage and have since been turned off because they’re unsafe to use. Leaving residents with no heat.
“It’s ver cold my temp says 48 degrees. I have the oven on. Heaters blowing,” noted Racquia Richardson of North Philadelphia.
Action News reached out regarding services in Manayunk and are still waiting to hear back.
