Dallas police said they are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in east Oak Cliff Thursday evening.

Officers responded to a shooting call in the 3100 block of Easter Avenue at around 6:40 p.m., according to police. At the scene, they determined that a person was shot by an unknown individual.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where they later died, police said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., nearly a dozen patrol cars parked near a two-story building in the St. James Manor apartment complex. Crime scene tape blocked off a breezeway, littered with at least five evidence markers — one placed next to a black sandal at the bottom of a short concrete staircase.
