The Australian Open may have just ended, but WTA tennis continues around the world, including in Ostrava, Czech Republic. 28 women are in search of ranking points and prize money, and 12 of them are going to get their tournaments started on Monday. As always, we here at LastWordOnTennis will share our thoughts on all of the matches. Who do you think will win on Day 2 in Ostrava?

WTA Ostrava Day 2 Predictions
Diane Parry vs Oceane Dodin

This all-Frenchwoman battle should be a fun one. In a way, it’s a matchup of two women who had seriously more potential and never quite got there. Of course, that potential is still there, and both of these women can definitely go deep in this tournament. Or both could burn out early. The pair hasn’t met officially before, but they definitely know each other’s game. I would take Parry in this; I think she’s more consistent and her game should be able to hit through Dodin’s all-court game.
Prediction: Parry in 2

Tamara Korpatsch vs Anna Siskova

Siskova is a home town player, but she’s probably out of her depth here. The pair have met once before, at a 125 last year in France, and Korpatsch won. The match was a bit closer than expected, but Korpatsch is still the better player in the matchup. I would expect her to move on.
Prediction: Korpatsch in 2

Linda Fruhvirtova vs Mona Barthel

This is another first-time battle. Neither woman is at anywhere near her best right now. Barthel is probably because she’s now 35 and is well past her prime, trying to find one or two last runs of good play at the end of her career. Fruhvirtova, meanwhile, has a ton of potential but just has had a rough few seasons. This can go either way, though, because it’s really just up to whoever can find a semblance of their former form for longer. Toss a coin for this one.
Prediction: Fruhvirtova in 3
