A 66-year-old Fort Worth woman died from a stray bullet that struck her inside her home Friday night, and police are asking for help to find the shooter.
The death of Magdalene Mancho highlights the dangers of random gunfire in residential neighborhoods, as investigators work to connect her killing to earlier reports of shots fired in the area.
Fire crews initially responded to what appeared to be a medical emergency at 8:51 p.m. in the 3400 block of Tahiti Lane in Fort Worth’s South Division. Responders initially believed Mancho had fallen inside her home.
After arriving at the hospital, medical staff discovered Mancho’s injuries were due to a gunshot wound, not a fall. She died in the emergency room shortly after her arrival, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Fort Worth homicide detectives believe a bullet fired from outside penetrated Mancho’s home and struck her. The shooting may be linked to a “shots fired” call reported in the same neighborhood about an hour before the medical dispatch.
No suspects are in custody. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses who might have seen or heard anything suspicious on Friday evening.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the Fort Worth Homicide Unit at 817-392-4330. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-TIPS.
