Punxsutawney Phil may be calling for six more weeks of winter, but winter is nowhere to be found in San Diego County.

Warmer weather is expected Tuesday through Thursday, with periods of weak to locally moderate Santa Ana winds, according to the National Weather Service.

High temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 71 to 76 near the coast, 77 to 82 inland, 80 to 84 in the western valleys, 76 to 81 near the foothills, 64 to 74 in the mountains and 81 to 85 in the deserts.

Patchy dense fog over coastal waters could linger into Tuesday morning, mainly affecting coastal communities. As offshore winds develop Wednesday, fog should diminish along the coast.

Santa Ana winds are forecast to strengthen Wednesday into Thursday, with the strongest gusts across the county’s mountains. Gusts could occasionally exceed 50 mph through some mountain passes, though winds are expected to remain below wind advisory levels.

Conditions will cool Friday through the weekend as onshore flow returns. A low-pressure system could bring a chance of showers Friday afternoon, with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Showers could linger into Saturday, depending on the storm’s track, the NWS said.

Forecasters said they are also watching the potential for cooler, wetter weather early next week as additional systems approach the region.
