PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — She’s one of the most prolific comedians of our time, and she’s bringing her new tour to Philadelphia.
Margaret Cho is a groundbreaking comedian and actress who has paved the way for generations.
She can do it all: from singing to breaking barriers with the first-ever TV show centered on an Asian family, to making millions laugh and inspiring a new generation of entertainers.
“I think my greatest achievement is to have inspired so many wonderful people to take the stage, to go out there and be stand-up comedians, whether that’s Joel Kim Booster, or Ali Wong, or people like Bowen Yang,” Cho told Action News.
Cho is now using her voice to speak out against the violence breaking out across the United States.
“I’m here to represent Americans who are not white, but who are Americans. I was born here, I’m a real patriot, and I want to get our country back,” Cho said.
Her new tour, “Choligarchy,” is all about finding laughter to address real-life issues.
“The Queer community’s in danger, and especially the trans community. That’s really terrifying to me,” Cho said
When Margaret Cho is not on tour, she’s busy with multiple TV shows, like ABC’s hit primetime drama Will Trent.
You can also catch her alongside her friend Sandra Bernhard in Disney’s “Percy Jackson & the Olympians.”
“We were all in, really wild makeup, because we were the Gray Sisters….I’m a crazy Sandra Bernhardt fan. I told her I’m a Bernhardtologist,” Cho said about the Disney+ show.
In just weeks, the legendary comic is bringing her standup show to Philadelphia, and she’s no stranger to the City of Brotherly Love.
“I’ve had lots of body piercing there. I’ve had lots of cartilage piercing all over Philly, along with lots of cheesesteaks, which I love. Lots of just long sandwich. A long sandwich is really what Philly is about for me,” said Cho.
Cho is fresh off the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, where two of her films just had world premieres.
You can see her live at The Fillmore on February 19.
