Rain to follow frosty morning, forecasts News4JAX’s Katie Garner

  • February 4, 2026

Expect evening rain and storms

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It’s Katie Garner here with your latest from The Weather Authority. Let’s talk about the big headline: We’re expecting rain to move into Jacksonville tonight, bringing a chance for storms through the overnight hours.

On Exact Track 4D, you can clearly see a strong line of rain forming through Georgia around 5 p.m. By 7 to 9 p.m., that rain pushes south, crossing into Jacksonville, and everyone is looking at wet weather overnight.

Showers are definitely needed, so I’m glad to say they’re likely—even though they will arrive after dark. Be sure to have alerts turned on with our app so you’ll be notified, because it’s harder to spot changes outside once the sun goes down.

Frost advisory, chilly morning start

You probably woke up chilly this morning! There’s a frost advisory south of Jacksonville, covering Palatka, Gainesville, and surrounding areas, in effect until 8 a.m. No advisories are posted beyond those spots, but it’s definitely cold throughout the area.

We started with 40 degrees in Jacksonville, most places along the coast in the 30s, and areas in Georgia holding around 48 degrees. If you grabbed a coat this morning, you weren’t alone.

Warming trend and wind gusts

Here’s some good news—we’re warmer today than yesterday, and the sun is going to help push us a little higher before the rain arrives. Winds have been light so far, hanging around 5 to 10 mph this morning, but I’m forecasting those gusts to pick up as the front heads through later this afternoon and this evening.

It’s looking like a nice day until late, so enjoy it while you can.
