In June, beloved brunch eatery Comfort Cafe, known for its pay-what-you-can policy, shuttered its Los Patios location, consolidating local operations at its Leon Valley outpost. At the time, the business hinted that it would launch a new bakery and coffee shop concept, and this week, that concept became a reality.

On Thursday, July 10, Sweet Serenity opened its doors in the same Leon Valley shopping center as Comfort Cafe’s Bandera Road location, inviting customers to try an assortment of baked goods and espresso-based beverages. Sweet Serenity is named after Comfort Cafe’s SerenityStar program, which offers support for addicts in recovery.

MySA reached out to Sweet Serenity, which informed us about a few key details. First, the bakery and coffee shop are donation-only, similar to how Comfort Cafe operates on a pay-what-you-can basis. Secondly, the business is currently cash-only, but Apple Pay will be added in the future. Lastly, Sweet Serenity employs individuals who participate in SerenityStar’s recovery program.

Sweet Serenity’s menu runs the gamut of baked goods, with items like croissants, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cannolis, muffins, scones, brownies and trifles on the menu. On the coffee side, the shop offers all the standard espresso options, including lattes, Americanos, cappuccinos and macchiatos in addition to several teas. Sweet Serenity also offers “Krazy Krepes,” a playful take on the French crepe with flavors like Nutella and honey cinnamon.

Sweet Serenity is open Thursday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
