The FBI has issued a reward for information about a person who appeared to open fire at an immigration enforcement operation in rural Ventura County.
The federal operation at Glass House Farms near Camarillo drew dozens of protesters who clashed with federal agents on a road surrounded by farm fields and greenhouses northwest of Los Angeles. Authorities said the individual fired multiple shots, but it was not immediately clear whether the shooter was targeting federal agents or firing indiscriminately.
No injuries related to gunfire were reported.
Video from NewsChopper4 appeared to show someone raising a firearm as people scrambled following the deployment of tear gas. The U.S. Attorney’s Office shared of a photo of the man sought by authorities.
The FBI issued a $50,000 award for information leading to the conviction of the person who appeared to fire the pistol, U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli shared on social media.
Dozens were people were detained in connection with the enforcement operation.
Glass House Farms said on social media that it was visited Thursday by officials for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and “fully complied with agent search warrants.”
It’s legal to grow and sell cannabis in California with proper licensing. State records show the company has multiple active licenses to cultivate cannabis.
Federal immigration enforcement agents have ramped up arrests in Southern California, carrying out operations at car washes, farms and home improvement store parking lots. The Trump administration has activated the National Guard to protect federal properties and personnel, and several Guard members and vehicles were seen near Camarillo.
Ventura County firefighter-paramedics responded to the site and took several people to hospitals. Details about injuries were not immediately available.
