LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of scam phone calls.
According to their Facebook page, recently, scammers have been targeting residents with jury duty scams, claiming you missed jury duty and there is a warrant out for your arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office will never ask you to pay for a bond, fine, warrant, or any other fees over the phone and they will not request gift cards as payments. They say to not provide any personal or financial information. If you’re unsure of a call, hang up and call their non-emergency dispatch line at 608-782-7575 to verify.
They provided additional tips, like to not trust the caller ID, never share personal details over the phone and to hang up if something feels off.
