Grammy-winning rocker Rick Springfield has had a long, successful, and eclectic career. He was one of the biggest names in pop-rock in the 1980s with hits like “Jessie’s Girl,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” and “Don’t Talk to Strangers.” He also crossed over into acting with roles in General Hospital, Legion, Nick Knight, True Detective, Californication, and other films and TV shows. Now, he’s reliving the glory days with countless fans on his I Want My ’80s Tour.

Yesterday (July 10), Springfield appeared on Today to talk about his tour, “Jessie’s Girl,” and more. While there, he had a brief, tense moment with co-host and weatherman Craig Melvin. However, both men were able to laugh it off and move on with the conversation. Later, Springfield took to social media to share how much fun he had on the show.

Rick Springfield Jokingly Calls Out Craig Melvin

After discussing his current tour, Rick Springfield was reflecting on his massive hit, “Jessie’s Girl.” While he talked about recording the song, the camera focused on him as the song’s music video was overlayed on the shot for the viewers at home. Then, he paused and asked, “Am I boring you?”

Everyone but Craig Melvin, who also found the interaction humorous, was doubled over laughing. “Actually, you’re not at all,” he said before coughing.

“It’s early, don’t worry about it,” Springfield said, getting his laughter under control. “I’ll yawn, too. I’ll probably yawn, too.” This triggered more laughs from the Today hosts. Melvin tried to explain that he was coughing off-camera. However, his co-hosts’ laughs drowned out his explanation.

Springfield on How Things Have Changed

Rick Springfield’s I Want My ’80s Tour also features John Waite, Wang Chung, Paul Young, and John Cafferty. During the interview, he said he enjoys being on the road with them.

“This show is amazing. The bands involved, I was a fan of all of them during the ’80s. They’re all great people, too. So, it’s a great hang, as well, backstage,” he said. “We go out occasionally and have dinner, and it’s very civilized. Very different than it used to be,” he added.

“We look forward to sleep and a good meal where it used to be, ‘Alright, let’s party!’” he said.
