Summertime pattern rolls on across Texas as each afternoon will be hot and humid. Some sea breeze storms will remain possible from Austin and San Antonio to the Rio Grande Valley each afternoon as well. Monsoon begins to ramp up over west Texas and El Paso over the next few days, with the best chance of rain Monday through Thursday for El Paso.

The Week in Review

1. Ted Cruz clashes with Tucker Carlson in interview: ‘You don’t know anything about Iran’

Tensions flared between Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and conservative media personality Tucker Carlson during a Wednesday interview, as they debated the U.S. military’s involvement in joining Israel in their attack against Iran.

“We are carrying out military strikes today,” Cruz said. This led to Carlson questioning if the strikes were being carried out by the U.S. or Israel. Cruz then clarified that the U.S. support was limited to Israel’s strikes, not direct action against Iran.

2. New Texas polling data reveals Republican voters’ disapproval of THC ban

According to polling data from Fabrizio, Lee & Associates, a majority of Republican voters oppose Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signing Senate Bill 3, a ban on all products containing tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, into law.

The governor has until Sunday to sign or veto the bill. If no action is taken, the bill will go into effect on Sept. 1.

3. Gov. Greg Abbott signs $10 billion property tax relief package

Gov. Greg Abbott officially signed Senate Bill 4 on Monday, which will lead to lowered property taxes for Texans.

All homeowners will soon benefit from an increase of the homestead exemption. It removes part of the value of a homeowner’s property from being taxed. 

4. Defense Department sends 700 troops to Texas, Florida to assist ICE

The Department of Defense is mobilizing hundreds of troops to aid in immigration enforcement efforts in Texas, Louisiana and Florida.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Tuesday that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth last week authorized the mobilization of up to 700 military personnel to support U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in those three states.

5. Texas lawmakers urge Tesla to delay robotaxi rollout until safety law takes effect

Tesla robotaxis are set to hit the streets of Austin on June 22, but a group of Texas lawmakers is asking the electric carmaker to delay the launch.

State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt, D-Austin, posted a letter on X addressed to Tesla Field Quality Director Eddie Gates requesting that the company push back its robotaxi rollout until a new state law on autonomous vehicles takes effect.

6. ‘Take Meowt to the Ballgame’ event brings out some purrfect felines

The San Antonio Missions hosted a “Take Meowt to the Ballgame” event, which invited people to bring their cats along with them to enjoy America’s favorite pastime.

There were plenty of adorable feline friends at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium to cheer on the Missions as they took on the Frisco RoughRiders.

1. Trump says he’ll make decision about whether to strike Iran within next 2 weeks

President Donald Trump will make a final decision on whether to directly involve the U.S. military in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran within the next two weeks, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday.

“Based on the fact that there is a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Trump said in a statement read by Leavitt to reporters at Thursday’s press briefing.

After postponing her San Antonio concert this month because of issues with the structure that supports her stage, Colombian singer Shakira will return to the Alamo City to give fans the show they were promised.

Originally set for June 13, the new show will be on July 5 at 7:30 p.m., the San Antonio Alamodome wrote in a post to Instagram.
