JACKSONVILLE — The Emmanuel United Church of Christ at 4135 Jacksonville Road, Howard, will be having a 150th celebration on July 12-13. On Saturday, July 12, beginning at 4:15 p.m., join a local artist Annie Snyder reenactor in revisiting the past 150 years of the church’s building and its congregation. Light refreshments will be served after the presentation, as well as an open house and exhibition of historical artifacts and photographs of Emmanuel UCC and the Jacksonville area. There will also be a basket raffle. At 6 p.m. there will be an old-time community hymn sing featuring special music by Kenna Shenk and the basket raffle drawing.
A highlight of Emmanuel UCC’s 150-year-old sanctuary is a large mural painted by noted Clinton County artist Annie M. Snyder (1852-1927).
Current and former members of the church, their families and friends, as well as anyone interested in local history are welcome to join in the weekend celebration. In addition, a new cookbook — Food, Family and Fellowship: 150 Years of Recipes & Reminiscences of the Nittany Valley–will be for sale during the celebration. All proceeds from the cookbook sales will be donated to local food banks.
On Sunday, July 13, join the congregation for their worship service at 10:30 a.m. featuring special music by the Lomison’s and sermon by pastor Cindy Killinger. At noon there will be an old fashioned picnic and ice cream sundae bar.
