Diminishing storms overnight for Chicago, spotty showers and storms possible Saturday

03:08

Heavy rain is in the forecast for Chicago on Friday night, but an earlier threat of severe weather has significantly diminished.

A tornado watch had been in effect for most of the Chicago area until 11 p.m., but it was canceled around 9:30 p.m.

Showers and storms are expected to linger through around 3 a.m. Saturday, and could still bring wind gusts of up to 40 mph, along with lightning and possibly hail, and some intense downpours, but no widespread severe weather is expected.

Additional storm chances redevelop Saturday afternoon. The coverage and intensity of storms will not be as great on Saturday. That being said, a few storms on Saturday afternoon and early evening could be strong with heavy rainfall.

We finally dry out on Sunday with highs in the low to mid 80s. 90s return on Monday with storm chances building by mid-week.
