In “San Diego relaxes new ban on digital-only grocery coupons” (July 9), City Councilmember Marni von Wilpert congratulated herself and the City Council with the following words regarding its ban on digital-only coupons: “This is a great example of the council bringing something back so we can get it right.”
Ms. von Wilpert makes it clear: The City Council can “bring something back — so they can get it right.” If that’s true, why didn’t the council call for a new vote on 2022’s Measure B amending the People’s Ordinance of 1919 (passed by a razor-thin 50.5% vs. 49.5%) when members knew full well the city’s independent budget analyst advised that the projected garbage collection fee was going to be $23-$29 before the vote? Especially when that misdirection of the city’s projected garbage collection fee morphed from $29 to $43.60 — more than 50 percent higher than what voters were told. Where was this great example of the council bringing something back “so we can get it right”?
