Wrexham have announced and taken to the field in their new kit ahead of their return to the Championship.

And part-owner Ryan Reynolds couldn’t contain his excitement about the Red Dragons’ fresh threads, which pay tribute to the Welsh town and its history.

Branded a ‘modern classic’ by the club, Wrexham‘s new shirt is a glorious retro design with a smart white collar and centralised crest.

The back-to-back-to-back promotional winners say it’s inspired by their shirts from the early 1980s, featuring white piping and a subtle pinstripe within the fabric of the shirt itself.

They say inspired, they’re pretty much exactly the same, and they’re class.

Reynolds helped launch the new look on his Instagram page, as the Canadian Hollywood star posted: “Been waiting a year for this kit to make its debut — and it did not disappoint.”

Fellow co-owner Rob McElhenney – who has now shortened his name to ‘Rob Mac’… no, seriously, he has – also posted on social media: “A special piece of history right here.

“Wrexham Academy grad Max Cleworth wearing our newest kit, inspired by the one Joey Jones rocked back in the day.”

The Welsh side wore it for the first time as they got their pre-season tour of Australia underway with a 3-0 victory over Melbourne Victory at the Marvel Stadium on Friday night/Saturday morning.

The Red Dragons decided to travel Down Under this summer rather than their now-customary trip to the United States, for a few reasons.

One, because of the US hosting the Club World Cup this summer, there were doubts over how a pre-season trip of the States would work while the FIFA tournament was still being played across the nation.

Two, Australia is the third largest audience of the club’s award-winning ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, with the 53,000-seater Marvel Stadium sold out in Melbourne for the club’s visit.

Summer signing Ryan Hardie, who arrived from Plymouth Argyle for around £700,000, scored on his non-competitive debut for his new club, with Tom O’Connor and George Evans the other goalscorers.

It was supporters’ first opportunity to see Hardie in action, as well as their new kit on full display.

The shirt features some other hidden tributes to the Wrexham area, with the phrase, ‘History only tells a story’, seen inside the bottom hem.

That’s a reference to lyrics from the club’s official anthem.

There is also a special tribute to the victims of the Gresford Colliery disaster of 1934.

The back of the shirt features an image of the Gresford Colliery Memorial, which stands on the outskirts of the city, and the number 266 in tribute to the workers who lost their lives in one of Britain’s worst mining accidents.

Given the club’s worldwide fanbase, largely due to the Disney+ show, the shirt is available to buy in a number of different locations around the globe.

UK customers can purchase the kit via wrexhamafc.co.uk, while international fans can head to wrexhamafcstore.com.

The kit can also be purchased in the following shops around the world: Classic Football Shirts (UK), Pelé Soccer (USA), Dick’s Sporting Goods (USA) JD Sports (USA), Evangelista Sport (Canada), Ultra Football (Australia) Rebel (Australia), Unisport DK (Nordics).

They are also, of course, available from the club shop at the Racecourse Ground, or the new Wrexham store opening at the Eagles Meadow shopping centre in the city.
